I agree it is flawed, early season games are almost irrelevant in March.

The ACC gets the best basketball players, just like the SEC does in football. It takes them more time to develop in basketball, because they usually have to play right away and have not developed that "where to be on the court" at the college basketball level. That's especially on Defense, but moving without the ball on offense is important too.
